The two-time Olympic gold champion in Alpine skiing was a favorite to win her first two races, the slalom and giant slalom, but she was heartbroken and shocked when she missed gates and was disqualified.
Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, Shiffrin’s boyfriend and fellow Alpine racer, is joining her in Beijing as a support system. Here’s more on the Olympic power couple, including how they met and why they didn’t start dating until both of them were going through difficult times.

Mikaela Shiffrin’s Boyfriend?
Aleksander Aamodt Kilde is Mikaela Shiffrin’s boyfriend. He is a well-known Norwegian alpine ski racer who competes in the World Cup. Shiffrin said they met about seven years ago, but didn’t start dating until last year, when they were both going through difficult times.

Who Is Aleksander Aamodt Kilde?
While Shiffrin’s prowess in her sport has earned her a household figure, her Norwegian beau is less well-known.Kilde was born in Brum, Norway, on September 21, 1992, and won the junior world championship in giant slalom in 2013.
The athlete competes in a variety of events, but primarily in Super-G and downhill. Kilde has competed for Norway’s Alpine skiing team in the 2014 Olympics in Sochi and the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang.
Kilde won a silver medal in the combined and a bronze in the Super-G after his performances in Beijing. He is not connected to fellow Norwegian alpine racer Kjetil André Aamodt; his middle name, Aamodt, is derived from his mother’s maiden name.
How They Met for the First Time Shiffrin and Kilde
Shiffrin and Kilde initially met at a ski camp in Chile seven years ago. They didn’t get romantically attached until early 2021. In October, they made their first public appearance together. “I guess he initiated the discussion by saying ‘Hi,'” Shiffrin said of their first meeting to Reuters.
