If you use TikTok, the Adult Swim trend may have shown up on your For You Page. Many British people don’t know what to make of the videos, but we know where the TikTok trend came from…
What is Adult Swim?
AS stands for “Adult Swim,” which is what the late-night programming block on Cartoon Network in the United States is called. It is known for showing more live-action and animated shows for adults with darker themes.
So far, Black Jesus, Adventure Time, The Boondocks, Black Dynamite, and Rick and Morty have all aired there. The channel uses short clips called “bumps” to move between commercials and TV shows.
Adult Swim uses the logo in its sequences in a way that is similar to how Channel 4 in the UK uses bumps with a big “4” logo.
Often, the letters are hidden until the end of the clip, when they are finally shown. TikTok users really like the quirky, indie style of Adult Swim’s bumps.
What Does as Mean on Tik Tok?
As part of the Adult Swim trend, people have tried to copy and make fun of the Adult Swim “bumps.” Users come up with creative ways to use the letters [AS] in the short video.
In one video, a man sweeps popcorn in an empty theater, and then the letters are made out of the popcorn. Another person sees a boy at his computer spill a can of cashews, which “spill” to make [AS].
What is the Song in the Adult Swim Trend?
The song is called “Running Away,” and it was made by Vano 3000 for TikTok. The beat comes from “Time Moves Slow feat. Sam Herring” by BADBADNOTGOOD. Nearly 200,000 people have now used the song on the app.
Vano started making music in Florida out of his truck. Since then, he has made different beats on TikTok. After his song got a lot of attention, Vano 3000 talked to Insider. He said he likes the trend: “I watch Adult Swim every single night.
“I thought it was just so clever. I’m like, “You know, I love Adult Swim.” And the cartoons they have and all that other stuff, I just love their style.”
