Production of The Man Who Fell to Earth
In August 2019, the Walter Tevis book-based TV series The Man Who Fell to Earth switched from Hulu to CBS All Access. The concept was created by Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet. It had been in development at Hulu for more than a year, but when Disney acquired 21st Century Fox, they were unable to make co-production work, so they transferred the project.
Chiwetel Ejiofor was selected in February 2021 to portray the alien/Faraday in the programme. The following month, the show switched to Showtime, and Jimmi Simpson, Clarke Peters, and Naomie Harris joined the cast. Rob Delaney, Sonya Cassidy, Joana Ribeiro, and Annelle Olayele were all expected to join in April.
In August, Kate Mulgrew debuted in a recurrent role. In January 2022, Bill Nighy was selected to replace David Bowie in the role of Thomas Jerome Newton. On May 3, 2021, the first scene was filmed in London.
