The Crown Season 5 Release Date: What Are the Latest Updates of This Season

The Crown Season 5 Release Date

The fourth season of The Crown, Netflix’s drama about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, came out in 2020. It was set in the 1980s and introduced us to Lady Diana Spencer and Margaret Thatcher, two people who had a big impact on the decade.

The new episodes were praised by critics and were among the most talked-about TV shows of the year. Gillian Anderson’s portrayal of Margaret Thatcher and Emma Corrin’s portrayal of Diana captured viewers’ attention.

How Long Will Each Season of the Crown Be?

The drama was supposed to have six 10-episode seasons, but when The Crown creator Peter Morgan was writing the fifth season, he decided it was “the perfect time and place to stop.”

Then, in July 2020, it became clear that Morgan had changed his mind, and Netflix announced on social media that a sixth season would be made after all.

If you’ve already seen Season 4, you might be wondering when Season 5 will come out and what the royal soap opera will be like after another full cast change.

Season 5 of The Crown will pick up where season 4 left off, which was in late 1990. This means that the show is likely to take place in the 1990s, which was a hard time for the Queen and the rest of the Royal Family.

In series 5, we can expect to learn about the Queen’s “year from hell,” 1992, when three of her children’s marriages fell apart and Windsor Castle was badly damaged by a fire.

In November of that year, just four days after the Windsor fire, she gave a speech to mark the 40th anniversary of the day she took the throne: “1992 is not a year I will always remember with pure happiness. It has turned out to be a “year from hell,” as one of my more sympathetic correspondents put it.”

In 1995, at the end of that decade, Diana gave a very honest interview to journalist Martin Bashir. This interview is still making waves today, 25 years after it happened. Prince Charles and Princess Diana got a divorce in 1996, and Diana died in a car accident in 1997.

In 2006, Helen Mirren played the title role in the movie The Queen, which was about what happened after Diana’s death. Peter Morgan, the man who made The Crown, also wrote the script for that movie.

In 1997, the Queen and Prince Philip also marked their 50th wedding anniversary. Both Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother died in 2002, but it’s not clear if these deaths will be in season 5 or season 6.

In Season 6, the story will move into the early 2000s.

Harry and Meghan: Will They Be in the Crown?

The news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are leaving their jobs in the Royal Family and moving to the US is dominating the news right now. However, the timeframes of the last two seasons of The Crown and the fact that writer Peter Morgan wants to look at events from a distance mean that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s move and televised interview with Oprah Winfrey are unlikely to be included in the show.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in August 2020, Morgan said that things that seem important at the time may not be as important as they seem now.

Morgan said, “Meghan and Harry are in the middle of their journey, and I have no idea what it is or how it will end.”

“I kind of have a 20-year rule in my head. That is enough time and distance to really understand something, to understand its role, its place, and its importance.”

He did say, though, that the story of Harry and Meghan might be hinted at as long as The Crown keeps focusing on Charles and Diana’s relationship and its tragic end.

“I think that to be a good dramatist, you need to be able to see things from different points of view and be open to metaphors. You could, for example, use analogies and metaphors to tell the story of Harry and Meghan, if that’s what you want to do.

“Because there have been so many examples in the past, like Wallis Simpson and Edward VII, or Diana and Prince Charles. There have been many times in the past when there were problems in a marriage.

“There have been wives in the Royal family who felt like they didn’t belong and didn’t feel welcome. So you can tell a lot of stories without talking about Harry and Meghan.”

That doesn’t mean that the Sussexes won’t show up on Netflix soon. The couple made a deal with the streaming giant in September 2020 to make a number of shows for them through their own production company. Documentaries, feature films, TV series, and shows for kids are likely to be on the schedule.

Will the Crown Have a Sixth Season?

Season 6 has been confirmed, and it’s likely that it will focus on Tony Blair’s time in power and his work relationship with the Queen after Diana’s death.
