Strange New Worlds Season 2: Who Will Be the Cast in This Season!

Christopher Pike was the captain of the USS Enterprise before James T. Kirk ever stepped foot on its bridge, and now fans of “Star Trek” will be able to travel through space with this oft-forgotten Starfleet hero in  Strange New Worlds.

It wasn’t long until William Shatner took up the part of Kirk when NBC rejected Jeffrey Hunter‘s episode of “Star Trek: The Original Series” as “too cerebral,” according to Shatner’s biography, “Up Till Now.”

Strange New Worlds Season 2

It’s been nearly six decades since the first “Star Trek” episode aired, and now Paramount+ is working hard to establish a library of “Trek” shows to compete with the likes of Netflix, Hulu, and other popular brands in the streaming market. “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” joins the likes of “Star Trek: Discovery,” “Picard,” and others in Paramount’s stable of legendary “Star Trek” properties.

Strange New Worlds” will chronicle Captain Pike’s adventures in an episodic format, bucking the trend of serialized current television and returning to the model that made the original “Star Trek” so accessible to fans for so many years.

The network has been teasing fans with a steady flow of information about the characters he’ll be joined by. We’ve got the release date, cast, and more to go on as the Enterprise prepares to boldly go where no one has gone before in this new season of Star Trek.

Strange New Worlds Season 2 Release Date

Over the course of several years, “Strange New Worlds” has been in the works. “Star Trek: Discovery” fans have been clamoring for a full season since the character and his famed spacecraft made an appearance in Season 2.

Since 2020, when Alex Kurtzman, the current head of all things “Star Trek” at CBS, said that he and “Picard” showrunner Akiva Goldsman were “tossing ideas back and forth,” speculation about a brand-new show centered on Captain Pike has been circulating (via Pittsburgh Post-Gazette).

A Pike spinoff was formally announced by CBS in May 2020, with Kurtzman handling the project and Goldsman on board as a writer and executive producer (via the Hollywood Reporter). However, it wasn’t until the release of a promotional poster for “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” that we were given an actual release date for the film in question.

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” will air on Paramount+, CBS Viacom’s digital streaming service, on May 5, 2022, and will be the final installment in the current period of “Star Trek” programming.

Strange New Worlds Season 2 Cast

Captain Pike was first seen in “Star Trek: Discovery,” and he will be seen again in “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” both of which will be played by actor Anson Mount. On the other side of the screen will be an assortment of well-known characters, performed by a diverse range of actors, as well as some newbies who may be hiding some intriguing secrets of their own.

Ethan Peck reprises his role as Spock, who is still a science officer and has not yet been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Una Chin-Riley is the current first officer of Pike’s enterprise, and she is once again played by Rebecca Romijn in this role. Nyota Uhura, who is performed by Celia Rose Gooding, is another character that is well-liked by fans of “The Original Series.”

In the same way, as Spock is not yet a commanding officer, she is identified as a cadet in the casting announcement for “Strange New Worlds.” The Nurse Chapel on the Enterprise will be another welcome comeback from the original “Star Trek” series from the 1960s, played this time by Jess Bush. Despite the fact that he only appeared in two episodes of the original series, medical officer Dr. M’Benga is returning to the Enterprise, and he will be played by Babs Olusanmokun this season.

There is also a slew of brand new characters. Hemmer is an Aenar, a kind of blind extraterrestrial that serves as a Starfleet officer. Bruce Horak, a visually impaired actor, will take on the role of the main character (via Trek movie). The character of Lieutenant Erica Ortegas, who will be played by Melissa Navia, is another newbie to the cast.

To devout Trekkies, Christina Chong’s character La’an Noonien-Singh is undoubtedly the most intriguing addition to the program so far, if not the most fascinating. Many fans would recognize that last name because it is the surname of Khan Noonien-Singh, Captain Kirk’s most hated foe in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

The writer Akiva Goldsman verified that she is linked to him, but is there something else she’s keeping hidden? It’s almost certain to be one of the more intriguing mysteries that “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” will uncover in its investigation.

Strange New Worlds Season 2 Plot

It’s important to have a little background information about Strange New Worlds, even if we expect it to be a welcoming introduction to the Star Trek world for newcomers (unlike, say, Picard). “The Cage,” a long-unseen pilot episode of The Original Series, was set in the year 2254 and featured Captain Pike, the show’s protagonist, as the show’s first captain (the episode ended filming in 1965 but wasn’t seen by viewers until 1986 via home video).

In the middle of season one, William Shatner’s renowned Captain James T. Kirk took the reins, with Pike (who had suffered a disabling accident) making a final appearance. Spock and Pike get into a scuffle, and Pike is left to live a pain-free existence on Talos IV until the year 2267.

How does this apply to my situation? There are a lot of territories to cover in Strange New Worlds, which takes place between Pike’s exploits in Discovery’s second season in 2257 and his final days in The Original Series, which we think bodes well for some out-of-the-borg-cube thinking.

Even while there isn’t a lot of information available regarding the plotlines our new crew will experience, there’s still much to get excited about when it comes to the spatial distortions, subspace sandbars, and unknown oddities they’ll encounter.

To the delight of fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager, co-creator Akiva Goldsman has announced that Strange New Worlds will follow an almost wholly episodic format, stating that there will be “space to meet new species, see new ships, explore new societies.” It’s the only thing that will sabotage the episodic framework! There are storylines.
