Shavez Hart, an Olympic sprinter from the Bahamas, was shot and killed in a nightclub in his home country on Saturday. He was only 29 years old. Early on Saturday morning, the incident occurred at Mount Hope, North Abaco.

Hart was supposedly attempting to break up a quarrel when he was shot by one of the combatants. On Tuesday, the sprinter, who also participated for Texas A&M in the World Championship, would have turned 30 years old.

Shortly after the news of the terrible tragedy broke, Texas A&M’s head coach, Pat Henry, expressed his sorrow for the fallen sprinter. He stated, “This is really a tragedy. Shavez Hart was one of our greatest athletes ever, but he was also one of the kindest and most soft-spoken men I have ever encountered. The loss felt by the Aggie track and field family is beyond description. My sympathies and thoughts are with his family.”

Former South Plains assistant coach Blaine Wiley stated on social media, “I had the privilege of coaching ‘Sparkie’ at South Plains College, where he still holds the school record and won numerous NJCAA championships. RIP.”

Philip Brave Davis, the prime minister of the Bahamas, paid tribute to the sprinter by saying, “On behalf of my family and the people of the Bahamas, I extend my deepest sympathies to the family of Shavez Hart. As a nation, we are fortunate to have had a world-class athlete fly our flag throughout the globe. Ann and I will continue to keep the Shavez family in our prayers.

Shavez Hart Was Killed by a Gunshot in a Nightclub.

Saturday, a group of males fought in the parking lot of a nightclub in Mount Hope, according to the police report. The sprinter was then shot in the chest by a man who opened fire as Hart attempted to interfere. He was pronounced dead at the Marsh Harbour Clinic after being taken there.

The Minister of Youth Sports and Culture of the Bahamas issued the following statement in response to the athlete’s death: “It is with great regret that I join the athletic fraternity in extending my heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Olympian Shavez Hart.”

Shavez Hart Won Four National Championships.

Hart primarily participated in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. In the 100-meter dash, he achieved a personal best of 10.10 seconds, which was the third-fastest time ever recorded by a Bahamian. He was a four-time national champion in both the 100 metres and 200 metres, and he competed in both events at the 2016 Olympic Games.

At the 2012 NJCAA outdoor track and field championships, the sprinter won both the 100 and 200 metres for South Plains. He earned a silver medal in the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
