Ranking of Kings Season 2: Renewed or Cancelled ?

ranking of kings season 2

Ranking of Kings came out of nowhere at the end of 2021. Its beautiful euro-fantasy style and uplifting story about a young deaf Prince captivated anime fans.

The first season of the show was, to be honest, a modern anime writing masterpiece. Over 23 episodes, it told a smart, subversive story about what it means to be a hero and what a hero looks like, all while keeping viewers guessing. Also, you can’t deny how beautiful it is.

What’s Next After the First Season?

Let’s start with the hardest part first. As of this writing, neither WIT Studio, which makes the anime, nor Fuji TV, which airs the show in Japan, have confirmed that Ranking of Kings season two is in the works. That said, fans have been very happy with the show so far (it has a 91 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes), and manga sales have gone up since the anime’s premiere, so we’d be surprised if this stayed true for long.

When Might the Second Season of Ranking of Kings Come Out?

If there is a second season, when will everyone’s favourite boy-king come back? The best way to guess is to look at how long it took to get the first set of episodes.

The first season of Ranking of Kings was based on the first 12 volumes of the source manga.

The first volume came out in February 2019, but the series’ creator, Ssuke Tka, began writing it in 2017. The twelfth volume came out in December. This means that it took Tka at least three years to write enough for the current version.

Volume #13, which starts Part 2, will be out soon. This is in line with how one volume comes out every four months. If you want to keep track, Ranking of Kings now has 191 chapters.

So, it looks like fans will have to wait about two and a half years until Bojji has had enough adventures to make a second season of the anime make sense. If we’re being optimistic and a second season gets approved, it might come out in late 2024. This could happen sooner if WIT Studios chose to make a second season with 12 episodes instead.

But wait! Fans, like us, who want to know what will happen with the anime in the future should pay attention to the “Summer Festival Special Event” on July 10, 2022, at the Tokyo International Forum. Even though it’s just supposed to be a celebration of Ranking of Kings, with panels featuring the voice actors, we wouldn’t be surprised if Bojji and Kage’s future was announced in some way.

Who is in Ranking of Kings Season 2?

If the show comes back for a second season, we can expect to see all of Bojji’s new friends from the first season. So, here are the Japanese and English voice actors for all of the main characters in Ranking of Kings:

Ranking of Kings season one was also led by an all-star production team, including chief director Makoto Fuchigami (Soul Eater), director Yousuke Hatta (Death Parade, One Punch Man), and assistant director Arifumi Imai (Attack On Titan).

What Will Happen in the Second Season of Ranking of Kings?

At the end of season one of Ranking of Kings, most of the major plot lines were wrapped up. King Daida was given control of his body again, Bojji and the big four were able to beat Ouken and Miranjo, and King Bosse finally died (for good this time), floating away in a surprisingly graceful way. Also, just in case you forgot, Daida asked Miranjo to marry her.

Now that the stakes have been changed, it’s hard to say where the story will go in season 2. There might be some hints in the last few seconds of the show’s last episode, though.

There are two important things that happen: Boji gives up the throne and decides to go on adventures with Kage (who can blame him? ), and Desha is named the new King. Desha and his brother both promise to figure out how to save their brother Ouken (who was just squashed into a ball and yeeted into a lake, FYI).

These two events definitely plant the seeds for more stories, and we can’t wait to hear more, especially about the mysterious organisation behind the “rankings.”

There isn’t much to go on besides rumours, but in an interview with Anime News Network in December, the creator Ssuke Tka said: “I have a soft heart, so stories with happy endings are my favourite. If I can, I’d like to make everyone happy. But I can’t help the bad guys in that way. That’s all there is to it.”

We don’t know if Ranking of Kings has any truly “bad” characters, though, so who knows what this means?

When Can I See the Trailer for the Second Season of Ranking of Kings?

The first trailer for Ranking of Kings season one came out about five months before the first episode aired. If our prediction that season two will come out in late 2024 is right, a trailer for season two should come out around April 2024. No matter what, we’ll let you know here as soon as we find out more.
