Parler- Free Speech What Are Social Media Platforms?

Parler is an alt-tech microblogging and social networking service based in the United States. The platform claims it was founded in August 2018 with the intention of providing a forum for free expression. The origin of the word “Parler” is French, where it means “to speak.”

Users frequently compare Parler to Twitter, Mastodon, and the Truth Social app created by Donald Trump. Trump/Biden fans, conservatives, conspiracy theorists, and far-right extremists frequently contribute to the Parler social network’s content.

According to the platform’s community guidelines, the company’s mission is to provide all members with a “welcoming nonpartisan Public Square” and a “social platform in the spirit of the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.”

Why Was the Parler Application Banned in 2021?

The Parler app was removed from the Play Store and Apple App Store on January 9, 2021, due to Google’s belief that it was used to promote violence during the U.S. Capitol incident. Following this, Amazon AWS services also prohibited Parler.

The social networking service was then unavailable for over a month. However, it later resurfaced with a different hosting partner. To return to the Apple App Store, Parler also agreed to check the iOS version of the app for hate speech and clean up some messages.

Kanye West Buys Parler After Being Restricted on Twitter, Instagram
The controversial social networking service Parler has been purchased by a prominent American rapper. Monday’s statement from Parlement Technologies, the business that owns Parler, expressed gratitude for the transaction.

“We are pleased to report that Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has entered into an agreement in principle to acquire the Parler platform,” the statement added.

The statement stated, “The acquisition secures Parler’s future role in developing an ecosystem where all voices are welcome.”

“The acquisition of Parler by Ye will enhance our potential to establish an unstoppable ecosystem. No one should be required to self-censor due to ambiguity regarding which legal speech would result in a ban. No individual or organisation should fear being fully deplatformed for expressing opposing opinions, as Parler did. Groupthink has always been more hazardous than individual thought.

“Parler will continue to be a space where anybody can openly think, listen, and speak. We will continue to oppose censorship, cancellation culture, and dictatorship.”

Ye’s action follows the rapper’s suspension from Twitter and Instagram for violating the terms of service.

Regarding the agreement, Ye stated, “In a world where conservative views are considered controversial, we must ensure that we have the right to express ourselves freely.”

What Distinguishes Parler From Twitter and Its Competitors?

Parler is comparable to Twitter and its competitors, although there are notable distinctions. When you create an account on Parler, you are required to provide typical information such as your phone number and email address. After that, a list of suggested follows is provided.

This list consists primarily of conservative influencers and suggested hashtags. From the homepage, the “What’s New?” box prompts you to publish anything, and you may view a compilation of postings from the people you follow.

The Parler social network also has a similar private messaging feature to Twitter, as well as a “Discover” button where you can access the most recent news. The experience is comparable to the platform that Tesla CEO Elon Musk will soon possess.

In general, however, the content is conservative or derived from far-right views. Twitter is a rather dynamic platform, but Parler typically provides users with more political, conspiracy-based, and contentious material.

This is the primary distinction between the two platforms. Twitter is notorious for censoring or removing accounts that express unpopular viewpoints. However, Parler is known to permit accounts to do so without fear of having their content removed.

Kanye’s acquisition of Parler has paved a new path for the social networking site. As more and more people migrate to the platform, it is expected to get substantial attention. Have you signed up for Parler yet? Do you intend to do so?
