Only Murders in the Building spoilers follow. A bassoon cleaner at the centre of the storey? Who would have thought it would be so popular. A-list stars Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin teamed up in Murders in the Building, a satirical look at the culture’s obsession with true crime. Also, there were some lovely apartments in the area. It was revealed in mid-October who killed Tim Kono, but there is still plenty of murder to go around in the building after the 10-episode first season ended.
Is There Going to Be a Second Season of Only Murders in the Building?
Yes! Season 1 ended with a huge cliffhanger, so Hulu had no choice but to deliver another season of the acclaimed show. In addition, Hulu confirmed that “by a good measure” this was the most-watched comedy in the service’s history. A month before the season 1 finale, Hulu announced on Twitter that Only Murders would return for a second season.
Season 1 of Only Murders in the Building Ended With a Cliffhanger.
A lot of questions were raised and none of them was answered in the season premiere’s finale. The Dimas were not the killers of Tim Kono, as previously thought. When Charles’s girlfriend and Arconia resident bassoon player, Jan (Amy Ryan), failed to impress after her romance with Tim ended, it was Jan who stepped forward. However, in the final moments of the episode, we are introduced to a new crime: the murder of Bunny, the building manager. Mabel, Charles, and Oliver are all arrested for the murder of Mabel, who was found in Mabel’s arms, stabbed with her knitting needles…
John Hoffman, the show’s creator, told Entertainment Weekly that Bunny would be killed in the finale. If she’s the victim, then she’s a focal point for all of the other characters in the stories to look bad at the end, according to him. “As a result, our presence around her body with a knitting needle in her chest pointed the finger at all of us in a way that was both threatening and fascinating. My original pitch to Hulu stated, ‘So at the end of the season, our investigative trio now find themselves a prime suspect in a new murder and the subjects of a new podcast that could be coming out, done by their own mentor.’ This was always my intention.”
Season 2 of Only Murders in the Building Has Yet to Be Announced.
In season 2, we can only assume that the detectives will be exonerated and that Bunny’s true killer will be found. Do you think Tina Fey’s Cinda Canning (the investigator) will take the lead or will she just podcast their calamities? Will the charges be dropped because they’ve won over Detective Williams’ (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) favour? Season 2 of Only Murderers in the Building may be titled after Cinda’s podcast.
According to Hoffman, season 2 will take the show in a “bigger direction” and figuring out why Bunny was in Mabel’s apartment is the key to unlocking the plot.
Hoffman also hinted, in an interview with Deadline, that the second season would include more information about the Arconia’s past. ‘It’s got some secrets, for sure, and that’s another area we’d like to investigate,’ he said. “Moreover, what does this mean in terms of our built-in real estate terms, such as the value and who wants to live here and who no longer does? mean for the real world? At the Arconia, things get a lot more complicated. More of its backstory will be revealed in Season 2.”
Hoffman also suggested that Mabel might see herself in hotter water than Oliver or Charles for Bunny’s death when he spoke to Elle. However, this will allow the show to dive deeper into Mabel’s arc.
“All of them are on trial. They’ve all gotten their feet wet, but Mabel has gotten a little more attention than the others “Hoffman commented. “As we enter season two, we’re excited about the potential that could arise from this. It’s going to get a little more hectic for Mabel in season 2.”
In episode 104, there were only murders in the building For help in figuring out whodunit, the team consults a famous podcasting trio, including Charles Steve Martin, Oliver Martin Short, and Mabel Selena Gomez (pictured above, taken by Craig blankenhornhulu).
Who Will Be Returning for Season 2?
For season 2, fans can look forward to seeing Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short return. Season 2 is also likely to include a larger role for season 1 guest star Tina Fey, as her character, Cinda Canning, was teased in the season 1 finale as creating a true-crime podcast about our beloved true crime podcasters.
Using flashbacks, Hoffman all but confirmed that Bunny (Jane Houdyshell) would be a part of the second season: “I reassured her that just because you’re a victim on this show doesn’t mean you’re not going to be in it; just ask Julian Cihi, who played Tim Kono in season 1. Even if you’re a victim, you’ll almost certainly appear on the show.”
Furthermore, Arconia (known in the real world as “The Bellnord”) will continue to play an important role in season 2. Hoffman told EW, “It’s got to stay square and centred around that.” It’s possible, he hinted, that Only Murders in the Building will continue after Season 2, even if it doesn’t return to the gorgeous Manhattan apartment complex from which it originated. The thought of how far and wide this thing could go and develop, and not just within those four walls, is “very exciting,” he continued.
For his part, Hoffman declined to comment on whether or not Sting would return. Hoffman did tell Deadline that Hoffman “can’t imagine a world” in which Jane Lynch would not be a part of the group moving forward as Charles’s former stunt double, Sazz.
Hoffman hinted that Oscar and Mabel’s “complicated” relationship had yet to be fully explored, so we can expect to see Aaron Dominguez back in the movie as well. However, the show’s creator believes the couple still has some work to do in order to figure out exactly who they are and whether or not they’re meant for each other.
Although Teddy Dimas and Theo are “in a boatload of trouble,” Hoffman hinted that they might return in season 2.
Also in early December, Cara Delevingne was announced as a series regular for the upcoming second season of the show, which will premiere in 2017. Variety reports that she’ll play Alice, a “sophisticated art world insider who becomes entangled in the mystery” In season one, most of the crimes revolved around jewel thieve (along with murders and podcasters), but in season two, it appears that the wealthy world of art curators will be the focus of the crimes.
Season 2 Has Yet to Be Announced
Speculation puts the release date around midway through 2022, but that has yet to be confirmed. During an interview with Elle, Hoffman said that the filming would begin again in November 2021.
Hoffman revealed that he and the writers have been working together for several months. “You have to build the mystery backwards and twist your way to the end in this show. To get to the end, you must first know everything and then hide and twist your way there. What we’ve been doing is speeding through the scripts, and we’re currently about halfway through the entire project.”
