Kevin Ferguson, the father of Kimbo Slice, was born in Nassau on February 8, 1974. He was a young immigrant who spent his formative years in Cutler Ridge, Florida.  His mother Rosemary Clarke reared him along with his brother Devon and sister Renea. He attended Bel-Air Elementary School, where it is said that at the age of 13, when defending a buddy, he got into his first altercation with classmate Dominic Sauer.

After attending Richmond Heights Middle School, Ferguson continued his education at Cutler Ridge Middle School. He was the standout middle linebacker at Miami Palmetto High School, where he attended. He had to spend a month living in his 1987 Nissan Pathfinder when Hurricane Andrew wrecked his home in Perrine, Florida, in 1992.

Ferguson studied criminal justice and received an athletic scholarship at the University of Miami, where he also attended Bethune-Cookman University. He spent an entire year and a half there. He participated in the preseason squad and a tryout with the Miami Dolphins in 1997, but he was unable to make the first team. United States judoka Rhadi Ferguson is Slice’s cousin.

Kimbo Slice Slice was admitted to a hospital close to his Coral Springs, Florida, home on June 5, 2016. Soon after being admitted to the hospital, on June 6, 2016, he died from heart failure.

A tumour was found on his liver during the post-mortem examination that was done on him. Bellator MMA CEO Scott Coker expressed his reaction to his passing by saying,

“Kimbo Slice was a beloved member of the Bellator family, and we are all shocked and saddened by the devastating and premature loss of Kimbo Slice.”

Ferguson began working as a bouncer for a strip club before his longtime manager and high school friend, Mike Imber, offered him a position as a limo driver and bodyguard for RK Netmedia, also known as Reality Kings, a Miami-based pornography production/promotion company that runs a number of well-known adult subscription websites. Throughout the rest of his life, Ferguson remained in regular contact with Reality Kings; Team Kimbo, a group of firm representatives, served as his battle team.

He was accused of carrying a concealed weapon in 2002, and in 2003 he started competing in unofficial mutual combat street bouts. They were disseminated online, mostly via the adult website SublimeDirectory and numerous other video hosting services. Ferguson put a significant cut on his opponent’s right eye during their first videotaped battle, which earned him the nickname Slice online.
