Season two of Julie and the Phantoms is highly anticipated after its first installment became a number one hit for High School Musical and Descendants creator Kenny Ortega.
It’s no small feat for the brilliant showrunner to turn a Brazilian sitcom with a brilliant premise (a girl plays in a band with GHOSTS!) into a Netflix hit.
“I love the premise,” Ortega said (via PopSugar). “Come on, a little girl, awaking the three ghosts who have exploded into her life and sharing her love of music by forming a band. There was a hint of Hannah Montana about it. It sparked my imagination because it contained all of the elements that make me want to do something: heart, magic, surprise, action, and adventure.”
“I believe so, yes,” he told Cinema Blend, “there are avenues to explore in season two.” “Absolutely. So they’ve certainly set them up for success in the upcoming season. And the showrunners, Dan and Dave, were fantastic. And I’m confident that the second season will be as good as, if not better than, the first.”
Executive producers David Hoge and Dan Cross told TVLine: “If we are fortunate enough to get a second season, the ghosts will have a lot on their plates. They’ve always wanted to get their music heard by the rest of the world. They want that connection with their audience, as Luke always says. A number one record? Is there a song at the top of the charts? Whatever it takes for their music to be remembered. But, as you can see at the end, there are still plenty of roadblocks in their way. And it appears that there is now an ‘obstacle’ in the inner circle.”
“In season one, we had so much to learn going into everything. The chemistry is now there! We’ve all learned so much…music, filming techniques, and even visual effects! So, now that we’ve hit the ground running and are really comfortable with everything, I’m excited to see the music set pieces we have in season two. take it a step further, “Tiger Beat spoke with Jeremy Shada.
“I’d love to incorporate more Latin culture into the show! Julie is heavily influenced by her culture, and we see it reflected in her home and how she dresses, but I think I’d like to try to incorporate more of that into the show “Madison Reyes explained.
“I’d like to see our superpowers develop! [In the first season,] we’re all new ghosts learning how to pick up objects and teleport, but then you see someone like Caleb, who is a master of ghosts who can levitate and make other people appear and disappear. That would be historic! Also, how cool would it be to have the original ‘Julie and the Phantoms’ cast make a cameo in season two?!” According to Charlie Gillespie.
When Will Julie and the Phantoms Season 2 Premiere?
As soon as we get more information, we’ll put it in this article faster than a catchy chorus is spliced into the middle of a spooky song.
The show won Best Musical Moment at the MTV Movie & TV Awards 2021 for ‘Edge of Great,’ beating out Wandavision’s ‘Agatha All Along’ and ‘Brown Skin Girl’ from Beyoncé’s Black Is King, among others – proving that it left an impression on its audience.
Who Is in the Julie and the Phantoms Season 2 Cast?
Madison Reyes will reprise her role as Julie – after all, she is the titular character.
Then there’s guitarist Luke (Charlie Gillespie), bassist Reggie (Jeremy Shada), and drummer Alex (Owen Patrick Joyner), all of whom we’d expect to be back for a second season album.
Shada, on the other hand, is as unsure as to the fans about the show’s return.

“I can’t say anything official. I’m not sure. I was not informed. But I’m holding out hope. We’re all eager to return. We’re all waiting for the phone to ring. We’ll be there if they pick it up and greenlight it. I’m a huge fan of the cast and crew. Kenny Ortega is a living legend and the nicest man on the planet. Kenny is my favorite. Working with those people is a lot of fun. It’s unusual to be able to combine music and acting on the same project at that level. It’s all about quality. It’s such an uplifting show, and I adore the entire cast and crew.
“Tap on the wood. We’re hoping to be able to film again soon. Perhaps next year. If it happens, I believe it must happen soon because it has been a long time since the first season was released. You want to take advantage of that momentum. The worst is having to wait two or three years between seasons. As long as fans continue to harass Netflix, hopefully, they will eventually say yes.”
What Will the Plot of Julie and the Phantoms Season 2 Be About?
Season one establishes the premise that our undead bandmates are on Earth to complete unfinished business; that unfinished business has yet to be resolved at the end of the first set of episodes, so expect that plot to continue into the second season.
There’s also the cliffhanger involving Caleb Covington taking over Nick’s body for what we can only assume are nefarious purposes. In season two, we’ll see a lot more of that.
In fact, at the end of the episode, all of our ghost pals appeared to become corporeal – but are they still ghosts?
“Honestly,” Ortega told Digital Spy, “that gets answered very early on in the next season.” “So if I ruin that, I’ll get smacked. It was intended to leave you in suspense and, hopefully, intrigue – hoping that something magical is happening and that this isn’t the end for these three characters.”
When asked about Julie and Luke’s connection, Reyes told E!: “I’m curious to see where the relationship goes, especially since we didn’t jump right into it with the two of them getting together or anything. It wasn’t your typical ‘Girl meets Guy, Guy and Girl Fall in Love’ scenario. There was conflict. There was some difficulty.
“They know it’s not right and that it won’t work out, but the fact that they can ignore everyone else’s opinions and just care about each other for what their soul is, who they are, and what they represent and project out into the world is incredible. And I believe that we should establish that, especially for younger people, so that they understand that they do not have to rush things. It is preferable to simply get to know someone. You should also listen to what others have to say, but if your heart is telling you something, and you have that gut feeling, then go for it.”
