Jon Hamm: Who is He? They Choose to Self-finance Their Film 2022


Jonathan Daniel Hamm was introduced to American audiences on March 10, 1971, and he went on to have a successful career in film and television. In 2008 and 2016, he won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Dramatic Television Series.

In 2015, he rose to prominence after receiving two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Ensemble in a Drama Series and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He was nominated for 16 Primetime Emmy Awards for his work on Mad Men as an actor and producer, as well as his guest appearances on 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Early Years

Hamm was born on March 10, 1971 to Daniel Hamm, who ran the family trucking business, and Deborah (née Garner) Hamm, who worked as a secretary. His surname was given to him by his German ancestors, and he also has English and Irish ancestry.

When he was two, his parents divorced, and he and his mother moved to a St. Louis suburb called Creve Coeur, where they remained until she died of colon cancer when he was ten. Once of Age, he moved to Normandy to be near his father and grandmother.


After graduating with a B.A. in English in 1993, Hamm taught eighth-grade acting at his alma mater, where he had previously earned an A. A future Hollywood actress, Ellie Kemper, was one of his students. Years Later, Hamm appeared on the Netflix comedy series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt starring Ellie Kemper. Since 1995, Hamm has lived and worked in Los Angeles as a stunt double.

While pursuing acting roles, he shared an apartment with four other actors-in-training and worked as a waiter to support himself. He portrayed Flavius in the Sacred Fools Theater Company’s production of Shakespeare’s Timon of Athens, and he was also a stage actor. Even though he was represented by the prestigious William Morris Agency, he struggled to secure acting roles due to his obviously advanced age. In 1998, after attempting to secure him acting roles for three years, William Morris dismissed him as a client.

He maintained his position as a waiter while designing the sets for a softcore pornographic film. Hamm dated playwright and actress Jennifer Westfeldt from 1997 to 2015. in 2008, he commented on their friendship: “despite the lack of legal recognition, Jennifer is more than just a girlfriend after ten years. They Choose to Self-finance Their Film.

“We were able to acquire an additional three filming days.
