How Many End Credits in Black Widow? The Significance of End Credit Scenes!

As expected, the post-credits scene of Black Widow sets up a future Marvel production. Unlike other Marvel films, this one has only one scene, but that doesn’t make it any less significant; in fact, it’s a strong indicator of what to expect from an upcoming Disney Plus show.

Natasha Romanoff’s solo film introduces Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh, who was a former Black Widow and Natasha’s adopted sister. It appears from the post-credits scene that the character will play a significant role in future Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

We’ve analysed the sequence to determine what it could indicate for the future of the MCU and how it foreshadows a forthcoming Disney Plus series.

What is the Post-credits Sequence in Black Widow?

We see Yelena visiting Natasha’s grave, which reads “Daughter, Sister, Avenger” after the end credits. There is a lengthy wait after Yelena’s whistle, but no reaction. As she mourns her sister, someone next to her blows their nose noisily. Who else but Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine?

Yelena and the Contessa are obviously acquainted, as the former Widow refers to de Fontaine as “Valentina” and complains that her holiday is being disturbed. It is unclear how long Val and Yelena have worked together and what their firm precisely entails. When the Contessa tells Yelena who her next target is, she provides a hint regarding the latter. Val sends Yelena after the guy who, according to the Contessa, is responsible for the killing of Yelena’s sister; the image de Fontaine presents is of Hawkeye.

How Does the Post-credits Scene of Black Widow Set Up the Hawkeye Series?

Black Widow and Hawkeye were on Vormir in Avengers: Endgame, and in order to retrieve the Soul Stone, one of them had to make the ultimate sacrifice. Natasha outsmarted Hawkeye and leapt from the cliff. Therefore, it is not entirely accurate to suggest that the archer is responsible for Natasha’s death, but Val is likely influencing Yelena for her own benefit.

Hawkeye will soon have his own Disney Plus show, which is scheduled to debut this year. Pugh’s presence has already been confirmed. From the Black Widow post-credits sequence, it appears that Yelena will be pursuing the Avenger, and based on Val’s comments, she will likely be extremely unhappy with him. Given Yelena’s extraordinary abilities, Hawkeye has cause for fear…

However, Val’s precise intentions are still unknown. She was first introduced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but the pandemic altered the original plan for her to make her debut in Black Widow. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the Contessa recruited John Walker, who ultimately became an agent for the United States. Val appears to be assembling an elite group of individuals, with rumours pointing to either the Dark Avengers or the Thunderbolts. If so, we could see a lot more of Yelena outside the Hawkeye series, as Nate Moore, the executive producer of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, has stated that Val will “be making more waves sooner rather than later.” Then, expect great things from this mystery individual.

In addition, a brief exchange between Yelena and Val in this sequence could offer additional light on the Contessa’s plans. When Yelena requests a raise, de Fontaine responds that she would also want one. This implies that Val is employed by an organisation, and that there is someone above her in the organisational hierarchy. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it was established that the Avengers do not receive compensation.

Regardless of the situation, it is evident that Yelena is working for Val, therefore Hawkeye should likely watch his back.
