“Chicago Med” on NBC is still one of the best medical dramas on television, and it returned this week after an extended sabbatical, much to the delight of its loyal audience. Episode 13 makes a tremendous comeback, bringing with it a slew of surprising twists and turns.
The biggest surprise came in the form of Nurse Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) discovering that she has an unknown tumour rather than being pregnant, and this will be the subject of a future episode. In Episode 14, according to the official synopsis, ‘Goodwin sends Med’s new compliance officer to a patient who has a long-hauler COVID condition; Maggie joins Halstead in treating a patient who has been in an iron lung for 60 years; Hammer uncovers horrific details about her mother.
It begins with Dr. Stevie Hammer (Kristen Hager) interrogating Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) about his failure to inform Dr. Stevie Hammer (Kristen Hager) about her mother’s hospitalisation. She is not informed, however, because the psychiatrist informs her that her mother herself particularly requested that she be kept in the dark about her condition. Dr. Charles closes the brief tape by asking Stevie’s mother, “What would you like me to tell her?” Dr. Charles then asks Stevie’s mother, “What would you like me to tell her?”
Stevie’s mother is a sensitive subject for her, as seen by her rocky connection with her, according to previous episodes of the show. As a result, Terri, Stevie’s mother, was unable to provide a stable home environment for her daughter, resulting in the family becoming homeless and relocating on a regular basis. Although she had a rough background, Stevie put in the effort and was able to attend medical school and obtain her doctoral degree.
When Stevie visited her mother at the homeless shelter where she was staying after her vehicle broke down during Season 7, their bond was renewed once again. Despite the fact that her daughter has urged her to get off the streets and has stated that she is capable of caring for herself, Stevie’s mother refuses to accept Stevie’s assistance, despite the fact that she has run out of medications.
Stevie’s mother makes an unexpected entrance in Episode 14 and foreshadows a period of intense family struggle for her. The advertisement also poses the terrifying question, “Will a mother’s secret be revealed at some point?” We can expect Stevie to have a rough time in the next episodes, as she will be seen coping with her mother and attempting to restart her broken marriage.
The eighth episode of NBC’s ‘Chicago Med’ airs at 8 p.m. ET.
