Apex Legends Season 13: What Are the Latest Updates of This Season

Some people think that thirteen is an unlucky number, but Apex Legends’ thirteenth season is coming along very well. With the new season, we’ll have a new legend that’s impossible to beat: Newcastle. We’ll also see big changes to Storm Point and Apex’s Ranked system.

Now that the season has started, the full patch notes talk about changes to balance and bug fixes, but we’ll just talk about the big changes you should know about before you log in. Here is everything we know about Season 13 of Apex Legends: Saviors.

When does Season 13 of Apex Legends start?

Season 13 of Apex Legends starts on Tuesday, May 10 at 10 a.m. PST/6 p.m. BST. As soon as the Saviors season starts, you can jump in at any time to try out the new Legends and map changes.

Newcastle is the new Legend for Season 13 of Apex Legends.

Don’t let the name fool you: Apex Legends’ Newcastle has nothing to do with Newcastle (opens in new tab). Instead, he is a knight with a shield who can completely lock down a place with fortifications.

The trailer for Season 13 hinted at Newcastle’s full kit, which we now know in full. Newcastle uses his Mobile Shield, which is an energy shield that can be controlled by a drone, to protect himself. As part of his Retrieve the Wounded passive, at one point he puts up another barrier while reviving Pathfinder. This is similar to Lifeline’s pre-rework revive shield. His ultimate is a huge wall called Castle Wall that, according to the trailer, can take a lot more damage than the walls of Rampart.

Mobile Shield (Tactical): Throw a movable energy shield made of a controllable drone.

Retrieve the Wounded is a passive ability that lets you pull downed allies to you as you heal them and protect them with your Revive Shield.

Castle Wall (Ultimate): Leap to an ally or a target and slam down to create a stronghold that is well-defended.

Adding a legend that is so focused on hard cover seems to be an attempt to shake up the long-standing Gibraltar meta, even though defensive characters like Wattson and Rampart have often ended up being pretty weak. Even so, Apex tends to give new characters a bit too much power when they first come out, so you can expect to hit your head against walls for at least the first few weeks of a new season.

Season 13 of Apex Legends Is a Ranked Rework.

Apex has been making small changes to its Ranked systems for a few seasons now, but Season 13 will be the biggest change yet to how competitive play works in Apex.

With the changes to ranked for Season 13, you will no longer be safe from being demoted (under the current system, you can drop tiers within a rank, but will never fall below the bottom tier of your current rank). Respawn says that tier demotions are being added “to solve the problem that some players face when they get promoted to a new tier but can’t move up in the ranks.” If you lose three games after being moved up to a higher tier, you won’t be demoted.

The new system also tries to put more emphasis on “Skill and Teamwork” by changing the RP for kills and the timer for helping out. Respawn says, “Now, everyone on a team will get some RP when one of them gets a kill.” There is no longer a limit on how much RP you can get for killing someone. Instead, the base value of each kill goes down. The assist timer went from 10 seconds to 15 seconds and resets when a player comes back to life.

What’s New With the Apex Legends Season 13 Map Changes?

Storm Point, the newest map in Apex Legends, has taken a bit of a beating. In the season trailer, our Legends kill a huge enemy crab, whose dead body becomes a new point of interest (POI) called Downed Beast. Cleanup crew ECHO has arrived to take care of the mess, but in the meantime, their tents and a huge crane around the beast’s body are high-tier loot spots. You can also climb inside through a few holes or zipline over the top.

But the fortified IMC Armories that break through the sand are more interesting. Like the loot vaults in King’s Canyon, these are full of guns and attachments, but if you try to take them, AI-controlled Spectres will appear. You’ll be locked in and have to stay alive for 60 seconds to get the loot. After that, you can either walk out or launch yourself into the sky.

What Comes With the Season 13 Battle Pass for Apex Legends?

For Season 13, we’ll get the usual set of themed skins, banners, voice lines, holo-sprays, music packs, and loading screens. The regular battle pass costs 950 Apex Coins, while the bundle costs 2,800.

There are rare sets of gear for Fuse, Bloodhound, Pathfinder, Mad Maggie, and Newcastle in the paid tier of this season’s battle pass. The rest of the information is on Apex’s website.
