Even Though Andrew Whitworth Denies It, the Cowboys Would Have to Trade With the Rams to Acquire Him.

Even though Andrew Whitworth has only been formally retired for six months, whispers have already begun to circulate regarding his possible return. However, the talks do not include him returning to the Los Angeles Rams after his retirement. The Dallas Cowboys are central to all activities.

When it was discovered that Tyron Smith had torn his hamstring and would be out for three to four months, Whitworth was one of the first names mentioned. Given that Whitworth maintained his physical health following his March retirement and never fully ruled out returning to football, it would appear to be a perfect fit.

The conversation between Whitworth and Duke Mayweather, an offensive line coach from Texas, began on Twitter. During Thursday’s preseason broadcast on Amazon, Whitworth was then questioned about his response to Cowboys-related phone calls and texts.

However, Whitworth did not determine the origin of the calls and texts.

Later, Whitworth stressed on Twitter that he has not heard from anyone within the Cowboys’ facility for a number of tweets. He was responding to phone calls and text messages from friends, fans, and journalists.

Due to his retirement with one year remaining on his contract, the Rams still possess Whitworth. Thus, conversing with Whitworth would constitute interference. Any team interested in Whitworth must obtain permission from the Rams.

The Cowboys are unable to sign Whitworth to any contract. Whitworth must be either moved to the Cowboys or released from the reserve/retired list in order to play for the Cowboys.

In 2020, Rob Gronkowski did the same thing when he came out of retirement. Patriots traded him to Bucs in exchange for a fourth-round pick; Bucs were unable to sign him in free agency.

Although the Cowboys should be interested in Whitworth, and the Rams may benefit if they trade a draught selection or player for him, it does not appear that he is interested in joining the Cowboys.

When asked if the Cowboys had approached him and if he was interested, he said negatively.
