Rich was cast as Nicholas at the age of eight. After Eight Is Enough, he appeared in the short-lived 1981 ABC television series Code Red and the 1983 CBS sitcom Gun Shy.
Rich has appeared in The Love Boat, CHiPs, Fantasy Island, The Six Million Dollar Man, St. Elsewhere, and Baywatch episodes. Alongside his Eight Is Enough co-star Willie Aames, he also provided voices for the Dungeons & Dragons animated series. Rich has appeared in advertising for the crackers Snackin’ Cake by Betty Crocker and Wheatsworth by Nabisco.

An unidentified family source told TMZ that Rich passed away in his home in the Los Angeles region on Saturday after being discovered unresponsive.

Rich passed away on Saturday in the Brentwood neighbourhood of Los Angeles, according to Lt. Aimee Earl of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner Coroner’s office. Although the cause of death was being investigated, it was not considered suspicious.
